Secret straightening with invisible braces
Even though we can’t resist a selfie, most of us are pretty private about what’s going on with our bodies. We don’t want to draw attention to our imperfections, even if we are getting them fixed. Sometimes we’d rather live with the not so great bits of ourselves than have to be seen to be correcting them with ugly devices.
That’s why many adults would rather live with their wonky teeth than go through a few months wearing metal bracket and wire braces. Braces never have been, and never will be, a fashion statement.
On the other hand, having straight teeth is more and more important so surely there must be a way out of this Catch 22 situation. Thankfully, dental researchers have put their best minds onto the conundrum of people wanting straight teeth but not wanting to wear braces and they have come up with a solution called invisible braces.
You can get invisible braces from us at Castle Lane Dental Care in Bournemouth. We stock a variety of such devices. They vary in what they look like, how they are fitted and also how long they take to work and what kind of misalignment issues they work best on.
Invisible braces is an umbrella term. Some invisible braces are more invisible than others.
Fixed invisible braces
These use brackets and wires like traditional metal braces. The braces that are fixed to the front of the teeth use clear ceramic for the brackets and a tooth-coloured coating on the wires. The braces are usually smaller than metal braces and exert less force. They work very well on mild to moderate issues with the front 6-8 teeth.
These are also fixed to the teeth, but they are cemented onto the tongue side of the teeth. Made of metal, they are used to correct more complex alignment issues and can exert more force. Treatment can take a couple of years as there is more to correct.
These are removable and go on over the teeth like a mouth guard. Made of very thin plastic, they are almost impossible to spot once they are in place.
