Losing one or more teeth is a traumatic experience. At Castle Lane Dental Care we offer a number of options to replace your missing teeth. As with all of our treatments, we take a conservative, minimally invasive approach. The best treatment for you will depend upon your individual circumstances and needs.
One of the most popular solutions for missing teeth is dentures. Dentures can be acrylic or metal-based, and can be used to replace several or all missing teeth. A denture used to replace a few missing teeth is known as a partial denture, whilst one used to replace all the teeth in one arch (jaw) of the mouth is called a full denture.
Modern dentures look and act much like natural teeth. They are removable for cleaning. Full dentures fit snuggly over your gums, although they may require periodic adjustment as it is common for your gums to shrink over time. Partial dentures may be secured to your remaining teeth using special clasps.
For a single or two adjacent missing teeth, we may recommend a dental bridge. Bridges comprise a precious metal bass with porcelain false teeth attached. They are fixed in the mouth, unlike dentures, and use surrounding teeth for support, with either crowns or wings placed on these supporting teeth.
Why should I replace missing teeth?
When we lose a tooth, over time our other teeth may move into any gaps, becoming crooked and difficult to clean. Depending on the location and number of teeth lost, our ability to eat a healthy diet, to speak and our confidence in our smile may all be negatively affected. If you have lost all your teeth, the skin around the jaws and cheeks may also start to sag with nothing to support them. Replacing your missing teeth with false teeth helps to prevent these problems.
